Answers to common questions about therapy, sessions, fees, and what to expect.
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people come when something feels off, when they're carrying more than they'd like, when a transition is harder than expected, or when they simply want a space to think and feel without judgement. If you're asking the question, that's often enough of a reason to explore it.
Reaching out to connect is a low-commitment way to find out if we might be a good fit.
Both offer talk therapy and support emotional wellbeing. In BC, psychologists hold a doctoral degree and are registered with the College of Psychologists. Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) hold graduate-level degrees (like mine) and are registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Both are recognized professionals, and many extended health plans cover both.
When you reach out, I'll respond within 1–2 business days. We'll have a brief, relaxed conversation, a chance for you to share a little about what's brought you to therapy, ask any questions you have, and get a sense of who I am. There's no pressure to commit, and no wrong things to say. By the end, we'll both have a clearer sense of whether we might be a good fit.
No referral is needed. You can reach out directly to book a session. Some insurance plans may require a referral from a physician for reimbursement, it's worth checking your specific plan if that's a consideration.
Sessions are 55 minutes long. For most people starting out, weekly or bi-weekly sessions offer the most continuity and momentum. As things shift, we can adjust the frequency together, there's no fixed rule. What matters is what actually works for you.
Sessions are available both online and in person. Online sessions are held via secure video, so you can connect from wherever you feel most comfortable in BC. In-person sessions are available in Victoria, BC. Many clients appreciate having the choice, and both formats can be equally effective, it really comes down to what works best for you.
Yes. I offer sessions in both English and Mandarin (普通话). Many clients find it meaningful to work in their first language, there are things that simply feel closer to the truth in the language you grew up in. You're also welcome to move between both languages as feels natural.
There's no fixed number. Some people find meaningful relief in a shorter course of sessions; others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. We'll check in together regularly about how things are going and what feels right. You're always in control of that.
That's completely okay. Some of the most meaningful sessions happen when someone arrives not knowing what to say. Silence, uncertainty, and "I don't know where to start" are all valid places to begin. We can work with whatever you bring.
Sessions are $140 CAD for 55 minutes. A sliding scale is available for those who need it, please reach out directly and we can discuss. No explanation or justification is required.
Many extended health benefit plans in BC cover RCC services under "clinical counselling," "registered counsellor," or "psychotherapy." Coverage varies widely by plan and employer. I recommend checking your plan's details before we begin, and I can provide receipts for reimbursement after each session.
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to the full session fee. I understand that life happens, if something unexpected comes up, please reach out as soon as you can and we'll figure it out together.
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work. What you share in sessions stays between us, with very limited legal exceptions: if there is risk of imminent harm to yourself or others, or if a court order compels disclosure. I will always discuss these limits with you before we begin.
I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform to protect your privacy during online sessions. You'll receive a link before your appointment, no account or download required in most cases. I'm happy to walk you through the process if it's your first time with virtual therapy.
Please don't hesitate to reach out. There are no silly questions, and sometimes the act of asking is the first step.
